Cheaper 5G phones from the brands LG, Nokia and Lenovo will be on the market this year, says the American chip maker Qualcomm. A new 5G chip from the company will be used in phones in the price range of between $ 300 to $ 500 (roughly between $ 250 and $ 450).
Currently, 5G modems are mainly found in the more expensive segment of the smartphone market. These are, for example, Galaxy S20 from Samsung and the P40 Pro from Huawei.
Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 690 chip should be found in smartphones to hit the market in the second half of 2020. Dutch providers are expected to take the steps this year to actually activate the 5G network.
The 5G network gives owners with a suitable smartphone access to higher speeds. The required frequencies are currently being auctioned by the government. The rollout is associated with concerns about the effect of radiation, but no evidence of health risks has yet been established in scientific research.
