The mysterious disappearance of a photo of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill from a Google search has generated outrage in the United Kingdom, when the figure of the former conservative leader is being questioned in the wave of anti-racist demonstrations that have taken place these days in the whole country.

When internet users search for "British Prime Ministers" on Google, the photos of the heads of government appear in a timeline, all but Churchill's, prompting many Twitter users to accuse Google of censorship.

"Mind-blowing if it's a deliberate policy, @Google. Western Europe would almost certainly be enslaved without the man whose photo is now missing," Simon Clarke, secretary of state for regional growth and local government, tweeted, defending the hero of the Second World War.

"We are aware that an image of Sir Winston Churchill is missing from his Knowledge Graph entry on Google," replied Google, which apologized for this fact and explained that it was due to an "automatic update."

Last weekend, the statue of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill near Parliament in London was vandalized during protests over the death of African-American George Floyd, asphyxiated by a US police officer. On the pedestal of the former 'premier' you could read "he was racist". For this reason, the statue was protected by a metal box. However, thousands of protesters, including far-right activists, approached Parliament to "stand guard", leading to clashes with the police and more than 100 arrests.
