A garbage collector from Calvados killed himself on Friday, near Caen in Calvados, after having received a letter of dismissal from his employer for having drunk two beers during his service. His family plans to file a complaint against his employer.

In Caen, Normandy, a 46-year-old garbage collector killed himself last Friday after being dismissed. The man had tested positive for alcohol in mid-May. He and one of his colleagues had agreed to drink two beers offered by two customers, but the municipal police then arrested them. His blood alcohol level was above the regulatory threshold.

The two employees are then summoned for a preliminary interview. On June 4, he received his letter of resignation. The next day like every other day, he gets up at dawn, puts on his garbage collector to go to work. Except that that morning, he no longer has a job. At 5:45 a.m. he went to his parents' garage and killed himself with a gunshot. His father and son find him a few hours later, his dismissal letter at his feet.

"We are all disgusted, it's disgusting because nobody deserves that"

One trauma testifies to one of his colleagues. "He was 26 years old," explains this CGT delegate, who has trouble explaining this gesture and denounces the working conditions and the pressures suffered within the company. "He had two drinks we offered him to thank him for everything he had done during the Covid ... He was a really nice guy. Always laughing. We are all disgusted, it's is disgusting because nobody deserves that, "he claims with his throat tied.

To mark the mourning, the garbage collector's colleagues put black armbands on the mirrors of their truck. Totally upset by this act, the family plans to file a complaint against the employer.
