The number of applications present on the Google Play platform that were identified as malware has doubled during the first quarter of 2020 with respect to the data from the previous year, exceeding 29,000 malicious 'apps' and 11 million infected devices.

This is data extracted from the analysis carried out by Secure-D for the British cybersecurity company Upstream, which reveals that nine of the ten most dangerous malicious 'apps' are or were available on the Google platform during the first quarter of the year, at same as 30 percent of the top 100 malicious software .

The malicious 'apps' detected on Google Play in the first three months of 2020 were 29,049, compared to more than 14,500 discovered during the same period of the previous year .

As for the number of devices infected by malware , this figure reaches 11.2 million according to the Secure-D report , which has warned of an increase of 7 percent compared to the same period last year. Brazil is the country in the world with the highest increase in infected mobiles, of 29 percent.

Among the applications discovered in 2020, it has been the most dangerous Snaptube an app download mobile video with more than 40 million downloads in 2019 conducted 70 million transactions fraudulent, half of them in Brazil.

Although Upstream reported it to Google in October, and it is still available in third-party app stores. The company has blocked more than 32 million fraudulent transactions that have taken place during the first three months of 2020.

This represents an increase of 55 percent over the 2019 data average .
