Facebook launches new app dedicated to live events - Geeko

Mark Zuckerberg's company unveils a new experimental application: Venue. The latter was designed to allow users to follow and react to sports events broadcast live. Presented as a "second screen", Venue will be an opportunity for internet users to receive expert analyzes, but also to interact with the fan community via chat rooms.

With this new social network, Facebook seems to want to get closer to its direct competitor: Twitter. The social network with the blue bird is actually particularly used to comment and react to live events whether it is sports competitions, debates and television broadcasts, or even events that take place in reality.

What contributions compared to the competition?

To stand out, Facebook relies on the animation of chat rooms by famous experts and commentators, in particular journalists, but also athletes. They will be able to share their opinion and analysis, but also ask questions to live spectators and offer polls. Spectators will also be able to share their point of view at certain times, just to react to events. The latter will not be obliged to remain taped to their smartphone since the application will send notifications during "highlights".

This new application is the result of Facebook's research and development team, the NPE (New Product Experimentation), which recently presented Tuned, a social network designed for couples. Currently, the app is only available in the United States. Venue's survival and deployment will depend on feedback from the community.
