It was announced today (29th) that the government is pursuing the introduction of 'Lemdesivir', which is expected to be a cure for Corona19.

Eui-kyung Lee, chief of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, said at a regular briefing held at the Government Complex in Sejong today.

Remedyvir is a drug developed by US pharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences, which developed the flu drug Tamiflu, as another treatment for the epidemic, Ebola.

Previously, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) reported a study that said the drug could shorten the recovery period for corona19 patients from 15 days to 11 days.

In the case of mortality, about 7% of the experimental groups were treated with Remdecivir, and about 12% were not.

The government is now known to review the approval of emergency use and special income from Remdesibir.

Urgent use approval is a system that allows temporary manufacture, sale, and use of products that are not permitted to be used in Korea in the event of an epidemic, and special income is a system that can be imported from abroad without prior notice.

If the government approves the emergency use of Remedyvir, the drug is virtually recognized as the first corona19 treatment in Korea.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) earlier approved this month's emergency use of remedyvir so that it can be used in severely corona19 patients who need oxygen therapy.
