Google said it made a mistake by removing the Podcast Addict app from its Play Store on Saturday, May 16. The latter is available again. The head of Chrome and Android in the Californian giant has apologized to fans of the popular portal. "We are still fixing small problems as we progress in our fight against false information about the Covid-19," Hiroshi Lockheimer wrote on Twitter the same day.

Apologies to Podcast Addict fans today. We are still sorting out kinks in our process as we combat Covid misinformation, but this app should not have been removed. Carry on with your podcasts, folks! 🙇‍♂️

The platform was a collateral damage from Google’s strict policy, says Frandroid . The specialized site evokes the possibility of an automatic sorting set up by the company and of which the app would have been victim. The podcast management program hosts audio files dealing with various and varied subjects, including the coronavirus.

Other apps have been kept

As part of this effort, Google retained Covid-19 platforms only if they depended directly or indirectly on an official authority. The creator of Podcast Addict, Xavier Guillemane, had also received a message announcing the suspension of his creation. It was accompanied by a request for proof of affiliation with "official government entities or public health organizations".

The developer alerted Google to the injustice of the situation and had numerous discussions with the high-tech giant. Xavier Guillemane's misunderstanding was all the greater since other podcast apps managing the same content had been kept on the Play Store.
