Cold and dry northwest winds flowed from the northwest, showing that last month was colder than the previous year.

According to the 'Meteorological Characteristics of April 2020' announced by the Korea Meteorological Administration today (6th), the average temperature of the country last month was 10.9 degrees, 1.3 degrees lower than the average year (1981-2010).

The national average temperature in January-March this year has been one of the top three in the same month since the observation in 1973, but last month was 5th in the 'upside down', far from the top.

The Korea Meteorological Administration explained, "As a warm air mass stagnated in the northwest of Lake Baikal, it weakened the east-west flow of air and strengthened the north-south flow."

The prominent inter-Korean flow means that cold, dry air near Siberia in the northwest frequently flows into the Korean Peninsula.

Due to the inflow of dry air, the national precipitation was 40.3 mm, less than the average year (79.3 mm).

However, as the atmospheric pressure, which was accompanied by cold air below -25 degrees Celsius, often deeply descended to the Korean Peninsula, a lot of snow fell between the mountains of Jeju on the 12th of last month and sleet in Seoul on the 22nd.

The sleet was recorded as the slowest spring snowfall in Seoul since 1907.

Last month, the average wind speed was 2.4m per second, slightly stronger than the average (2.3m).

It is mainly affected by cold air, and the air pressure changes around the Korean Peninsula.

In particular, on the 21st to 25th of last month, the 'Typhoon-class' strong winds hit the country with a maximum wind speed of 12.7 to 25.6 m per second and a maximum instantaneous wind speed of 19.5 to 32.4 m per second.

The average national yellow dust observation day was 0.7 days, 1.8 days less than the average (2.5 days).
