Online videogame consumption has increased 75% in Spain and in other countries such as Italy and the United States in the last month, coinciding with the measures of confinement against the coronavirus.

These are data from an eSports report compiled by the group specializing in the use of 'decision science' technologies AcuityAds, which highlights that " eSports are not something new, it is just that these exceptional circumstances are favoring its expansion", according to the Chief Strategy Officer from AcuityAds, Seraj Bharwani.

Currently, eSports already have more than 600 million viewers worldwide, a figure that continues to grow, and more than 4 million people follow the Riot Games league, as well as ESL, for the 2 million Overwatch League.

In addition, online videogame consumption has grown 75% in countries such as China, the United States, Italy and Spain in the last month, coinciding with the confinement measures against Covid-19.

It has recently broken the record for users in the network of simultaneous players on Steam, with more than 20.3 million, while 15 million people have connected to play Call of Duty Warriors.

For their part, creators of eSports content are also gaining popularity, as in the case of Ninja, with 15 million followers worldwide.

Who follows the video game tournaments?

The current profile of 'eSports' viewers is also evolving, and according to a study carried out in 2019 by Vividata in Canada, 40 percent of followers are women and 43% are also parents.

Demographically speaking, eSports achieve greater penetration between the ages of 16 and 34, and more than 30% claim to follow them. Among those under 25, the follow-up of 'eSports' exceeds even traditional sports (32% vs. 31%).

However, in the rest of the segments the number of people interested in eSports also increases: between 35 and 44 it is 19%, between 45 and 54 years old, 10% and between 55 and 64 years old it reaches 6%.
