A new autopilot feature could soon appear on Tesla vehicles, reported specialist media Electrek . This is "recognition and reaction to traffic lights and stop signs". For the time being, this function is still only in the testing phase in North America.

A feature that remains to be improved

With this update of the Autopilot, the electric cars of the American manufacturer will therefore be able to stop on their own when they detect a traffic light or a stop sign. "As your car approaches the intersection, it will indicate its intention to slow down by means of a notification, will slow down and then stop on the red line marked on the screen," explains Electrek .

The system still shows some limitations. If the light is green, the car will still slow down and the driver will have to press the accelerator pedal to continue on. The functionality does not take into account certain cases such as tolls, site traffic lights, level crossings or even pedestrian crossings. Tesla has yet to develop this tool in order to make its vehicles fully autonomous, as the manufacturer has promised by the end of the year.
