Former President Chun Doo-hwan (89), who was accused of defamation in connection with the May 18th Gwangju Democratization Movement, departed to Gwangju today (27th) to attend trial as a defendant.
It has been more than a year since I attended Gwangju District Court as a defendant on March 11 of last year. At about 8:25 am, Mr. Jeon left his home in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, with his wife, Yi Sun-ja (82), and went straight to the car and left for Gwangju.
Mr. Jeon has not been present for reasons for health reasons since attending a trial last year for an accreditation newspaper.
In a memo published in April 2017, Mr. Jeon alleged that the testimony of Father Gozo's helicopter shooting was false and accused him of accusing him of "a clergyless unscrupulous liar."
The trial of Mr. Jeon will be held today at 2 pm in the Gwangju District Court 201 Criminal Court.
