A fire broke out at Seongsan Ilchulbong, Jeju, which is famous as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the grass square, part of the Natural Monument District, was partially burned.

Today (23rd), at about 3:10 pm, the grass square in front of Seongsan Ilchulbong was lit.

As the fire spread from the wind to the ascending ridges, there was once a dangerous situation.

The fire burned about 2,645 square meters of grass and part of the tree, and it was completely extinguished in about 40 minutes by emergency firefighting helicopters, 10 fire trucks, and 40 fire-fighting personnel.

At the time of the fire, the staff at the Seongsan Ilchulbong Management Office, who had been mowing at the time of the fire, were burned to the fire and were taken to a hospital in Jeju City with a second degree burn.

Tourists at other sites were found to have evacuated safely around.

Fire authorities and police are investigating the cause of the accident, assuming that the mower was overheated while mowing the lawn.

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and a representative landmark of the World Geopark, is well known as a sunrise spot since ancient times so that the sight of sunrise was engraved on the eighteenth-century scene of Goryeo Dynasty.

Jeju Island is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world, with a total of 1.71 million people.
