The National Police has detected a new type of scam through the WhatsApp instant messaging application , through which criminals pose as National Police agents to steal the credentials of their victims.

This was explained this Tuesday by the main commissioner of the National Police, José García Molina, during the telematic press conference from La Moncloa after the daily meeting of the Coronavirus Technical Management Committee.

As detailed by José García Molina, criminals sent messages randomly through the app , identifying the user's profile with a shield of the National Police.

Similarly, the official account of the Police on Twitter has also warned of this hoax, providing screenshots and examples to recognize it more easily .

In the communications, they informed the victim of the scam that their email address is undergoing a police investigation, and requested personal and bank information to verify it , thereby preventing legal action against her.

"It is evident that the National Police does not work like this. If you are related to an investigation, you will be summoned to go to the police station or agents will go to your house, but you will never be asked for personal information by phone call, much less by means of a messaging application. ", has warned the main commissioner of the National Police.
