The American hotel chain Marriott will again fall victim to a data breach in 2020. In addition, hackers have gained insight into the data of 5.2 million guests, the company announced on its website on Tuesday.
In 2018, it was already announced that hackers had access to the data of 500 million Marriott guests. The company risks a fine of £ 99.2 million (112 million euros) from the UK regulator for negligence.
According to Marriott, unauthorized persons were given access to hotel guest data in mid-January. This would include names, email addresses, phone numbers, gender, date of birth, and company information for business guests. Not every guest had shared all this data with Marriott, the company notes.
