Min-sik Kim, a 9-year-old high school student who was killed by a speeding SUV in front of an elementary school in Asan, South Chungcheong Province in September last year.

Since then, the so-called Min-sik Act, which strengthens traffic safety in the child protection zone, has been proposed to the National Assembly, and Min-sik has been passed through difficult after appeals from parents.

The Minshik Act lowered the speed limit in the child protection zone to 30 km / h, and the mandatory installation of unmanned surveillance cameras and beacons is key. On the first day of implementation, there are few vehicles that slow down even if there are speed limit signs in the child protection zone, and there are still illegal parking stops.

However, in the presence of a speedometer, overspeed was significantly reduced.

As you can see your own speed with your own eyes, fewer vehicles violate the speed limit.

The government plans to install 2,000 more unmanned enforcement equipment, currently only 5% in child protection zones, by 2022.

In addition, we plan to significantly expand the yellow carpet and yellow footprint, which are pedestrian crossings, so that children can be easily recognized.

In particular, drivers who have died in child protection areas in the future may be subject to severe punishment, up to imprisonment.
