The Central Clinical Commission for New Infectious Diseases, which treats patients with corona19, has analyzed that corona19 will end only when immunity is developed in 60% of the country's population.

A medical journalist Cho Dong-chan reports what this means and how our measures to prevent infection should be changed.

In the online press conference today (23rd), the Central Infectious Diseases Clinic Committee made its first outlook for the end of domestic corona19.

[Oh Myung-Don / Clinic Chairman of New Infectious Diseases: The spread of corona19 can be stopped only when the population is 60% immune.]

It means that about 30 million people in the domestic population are infected, and the transmission power is blocked.

Germany's Prime Minister Merkel and others also predicted that 60 to 70% of the population will be infected, but this is the first official announcement by domestic experts.

How was 60% calculated?

At the present time, one patient appears to infect 2.5. Simulation results indicate that if 6 out of 10 people become infected and develop immunity, they will no longer spread around.

Researchers at Harvard University in the United States analyzed that Corona 19 neutralized the existing quarantine policy because of its rather infectious nature when there were no symptoms.

The way to track down the entrant's movements and isolate close contacts is that they have not prevented community infections, and that there is no long-term deterrence policy that limits movement and social distances, so it cannot be guaranteed.

[Omyung-don Oh / Clinical Chairman of New Infectious Diseases: Corona19 patients are expected to increase when school starts. Plan should be made in advance to prevent spreading between classes and between grades.]

The Central Clinical Committee emphasized that 80% of corona19 infections are cured without any treatment.

If the pandemic cannot be avoided, it seems to be more important to focus on reducing the number of deaths by focusing on the elderly and people with underlying diseases than on the number of confirmed patients.
