The E3 2020, this year's edition of the largest video game fair in the world, has been canceled , as the event organization officially announced.

Although the fair is traditionally held in June, all the logistics behind and the organization of trips and stays in Los Angeles would be tremendously complicated if the number of cases increases in the coming weeks.

Since yesterday, rumors about the cancellation of the E3 2020 had not stopped emerging, with different sources indicating that today it would become official.

As reported from Kotaku, the E3 2020 organization has announced the cancellation of the fair through a statement . Together with the Mobile World Congress, it is the second largest fair in the world of technology that does not take place this year for the coronavirus.

The cancellation of the E3 2020 can be a hard blow for Microsoft and Sony, who had planned to announce this year their new game consoles, Xbox X Series and PlayStation 5 , respectively. Although Sony did not plan to officially attend, the fair remained an important point for other companies to show their plans for PS5 and Xbox.

Although on paper the cancellation of the E3 should not affect its launch schedule, which points to November as the month in which both would arrive at stores, the situation in China, with many factories under minimum and manufacturing and shipping delays of technological products, could lead to even a delay in the launch of both game consoles .

If so, the video game industry would suffer a major blow, as the cycles of launching and producing video games also depend on the arrival of new video consoles on the market. Although there are many titles announced for 2020 and that would be released for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, the economic impact could be very serious for both Sony and Microsoft and for many other companies that make games, from Electronic Arts to Activision, through Ubisoft or Capcom.

No major company has made statements at the moment, except for Devolver Digital, an independent video game firm that, on its official Twitter, has encouraged cancellation of hotels and flights to Los Angeles because E3 will be canceled.
