The dark mode of WhatsApp has already reached mobile phones. This is the latest addition to the most popular instant messaging application in Spain.

WhatsApp , whose owner is Facebook, has announced the incorporation of this new mode to its chats. " It is designed to reduce eye strain when we are in low light environments ," the company said in a statement. A function that, as they stand out, is intended to "avoid those uncomfortable moments in which the phone illuminates the entire room."

The dark mode of WhatsApp is available for both iPhone and Android users . To activate it, you should have the application updated.

Turn on the dark mode of WhatsApp on iPhone

To activate the dark mode of WhatsApp on an iPhone it is necessary that the phone has an operating system of iOS13 or higher.

Those mobile phones that meet that requirement can use the dark mode of WhatsApp by enabling it in the system configuration.

Activate WhatsaApp dark mode on Android

In the case of phones with Android operating system, at least one version of Android 9 is required to activate the WhatsApp dark mode .

Those terminals that meet this requirement can activate it in Settings> Chats> Theme> select "Dark".

What if I don't think the dark mode option in WhatsApp?

In case your terminal does not allow the option of dark mode of WhatsApp , you can always make a manual fix.

The solution is as simple as changing the background color of the chats to a solid color and selecting black. It is not something definitive, but the experience will be very similar and will save something - either, yes - of battery.

To do so, simply open WhatsApp , click on the three vertical dots that appear in the upper right of the screen and select Settings . Once inside this menu you have to go to Chats and then to Background , where it is possible to change it to a solid color (the option we want), as well as a photo from the gallery or directly remove the background (this option replaces the traditional WhatsApp design for a solid tone between beige and gray).

In any case, as we say, it is a provisional measure that, if all goes well, we can leave soon.
