The Filipino authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Fredrick Brennan, the founder of the extreme right-wing forum 8chan. Brennan's lawyer said in a statement to the Philippine news site Rappler on Thursday that the arrest warrant was issued on Wednesday.
This concerns the lawsuit between Brennan and the later owner of the forum Jim Watkins. Brennan was charged with calling Watkins "senile" on Twitter.
Brennan is currently in the United States and it is not clear whether he will return to his hometown in the Philippines soon.
Brennan has not been involved with 8chan since 2015. He has since criticized the extreme right-wing forum. 8chan was discredited last year when it turned out that the suspects of shootings in two New Zealand mosques and a California synagogue had posted messages on the forum.
In addition, the shooter who set up a massacre in Texas in August last year was active on 8chan. Then the forum was taken offline.
Watkins then established a new forum under the name 8kun, which has been online since November.
