Tesla has remotely disabled the advanced version of the Autopilot and the fully autonomous driving device on a used Model S in the United States, reports the Jalopnik website. The first owner of the electric vehicle, manufactured in 2017, had sold it to a professional dealer in November 2019. At the time of this transaction, which took place during auctions organized by the brand of Elon Musk, the car was presented as being equipped with both options and had a value of around 7,300 euros.

The situation changed, however, when the current owner of the Model S acquired it last December. Tesla conducted a car software audit in November 2019 and removed the two options. The system update in December therefore led to their disappearance.

Incorrectly configured with the Autopilot

Before downloading the latest version of the software, the vehicle's dashboard displayed although both options were activated. The professional dealer was therefore in good faith when he sold the used Tesla. The buyer has chosen this car and agreed to pay the asking price, believing that it has optional features.

He has since asked the automaker for an explanation. "Tesla recently identified cases of customers benefiting from a configuration with Autopilot that they had not paid for," replied the manufacturer. “Since then, an audit has been carried out to correct these situations. Your vehicle is one of those that has been wrongly configured with the Autopilot, ”he added.

Tesla "apologizes for the confusion" and offered to buy the options. The latter refused, explaining that the official documents drafted by Tesla during the first auction clearly state that the Model S is equipped with both options.
