Will Salto make the leap into the world of streaming? We will still have to wait to find out. The video on demand platform (SVOD) mounted by TF1, M6 and France Télévisions will not be launched until the start of the 2020 academic year, reports Les Echos on Wednesday.

Originally scheduled for the first quarter of 2020, the release of Salto, a kind of French Netflix, was postponed by a few months to avoid finding itself in direct competition with Disney +, Disney's future streaming platform which will be released on March 24.

More human recommendations and "nuggets"

France Télévisions, M6 and TF1 nevertheless plan to launch Salto before the summer. The objective of the three groups is not to compete directly with Netflix but to offer a complementary offer. Salto thus promises a more human recommendation system than the algorithms of the American giant. According to Les Numériques , the platform could also use influencers to attract young people.

In terms of content, Salto is betting on French creation but also wants to offer new content, and why not find "nuggets" like La Casa de Papel on Netflix. In the fall, Salto announced that 250 million euros will be invested over three years in content. In terms of prices, the Salto teams are still working on the subject, but subscriptions should cost between a few euros to just over 10 euros.
