• Security: A hacker harasses an 8-year-old girl through the security camera in her room
  • Bug: Google deactivates Xiaomi cameras in its assistant after displaying content from other homes

Ring, a company owned by Amazon since 2018, has fired four of its workers for accessing private videos of its customers. The firm specializes in the manufacture of home security devices , such as cameras and smart doorbells.

The dismissal was confirmed in a letter that the company sent to several US senators and was obtained by Motherboard. "We are aware of the incidents ... in which employees violated our policies," acknowledges the letter.

In it, the company explains that "over the past four years," Amazon Ring has received "four complaints or queries regarding the access of a member of the Ring team to video data." And, although these employees were allowed to watch the videos, the access attempt exceeded the limits of what they should be able to see to do their job.

In all these cases, as soon as Ring was aware of the situation, he launched an investigation and then dismissed this person, they say in his letter. They also decided to reduce the number of people who have access to the videos. Currently only three employees can view this content. In addition, there is a team of workers in Ukraine who can watch public videos with the consent of the users.

It is not the first incident that affects Ring's cameras, since a few months ago it was learned that a hacker had accessed the camera in the room of an eight-year-old girl he had harassed.
