A certification for 8K televisions - Geeko

As the largest trade fair dedicated to new technologies, CES in Las Vegas, opens, the 8K Association announces that it has (finally) completed the certification of 8K televisions. A guarantee of level of quality and service for consumers.

Although they are still not widely used in commerce and among individuals - largely due to their exorbitant prices - 8K televisions have been around for several years already. The first ones were presented at CES 2018.

To receive the famous 8K certification, televisions will now have to meet certain requirements: a definition of 7680 x 4320 pixels minimum, an input frame rate of 24, 30 and 60 frames / second, more screen brightness 600 cd per m². They will also be obliged to support the HEVC codec and finally, to have an HDMI 2.1 socket.

Note that the HDMI 2.1 standard can support content up to 10K making it a standard of choice for 8K TVs. Thanks to the HDMI 2.1 port, televisions will be able to display content in 8K at 60 frames per second or in 4K at 120 frames per second. Enough to offer breathtaking image quality. As for bandwidth, HDMI 2.1 can go up to 48 Gb / s against only 18 Gb / s for HDMI 2.0.

This year again, the CES should be an opportunity for TV manufacturers to unveil new models with this display quality. Those who have the characteristics can wear the brand new 8K certification.

But with an entry price of at least 3,000 euros, and given the lack of content compatible with this image quality, it is certainly better to wait until this type of technology is democratized before equipping yourself.
