Raymond van Barneveld trained with the English darts legend Phil Taylor on Thursday at the office of their joint arrow supplier Target in Harlow, England. The 52-year-old Dutchman is preparing for his last World Cup darts.

"Raymond said to me last week:" How cool would it be that I start training with Taylor and that he prepares me for the World Cup. I immediately contacted him, "says Jaco van Bodegom manager in conversation with NUsport.

"He thought it was a great idea. Every year before the World Cup he sends an app to Raymond to wish him success. Phil is very committed, he hopes Raymond is doing well and shows that he is still one of the best is. "

Van Barneveld initially would train together with Jeffrey de Zwaan, but two weeks ago after the World Cup draw, a plan was drawn because they can meet in the second round.

"I am very happy that Phil is helping me get ready for the World Cup," Van Barneveld writes on Twitter with a photo of him and Taylor, who was his opponent in the 2007 World Cup finals (7-6 win) ) and 2009 (1-7 defeat).

Van Barneveld may train with Taylor more often

It is not inconceivable that Van Barneveld will train more often in the coming days with Taylor who stopped two years ago. He will play in the first round on Saturday against Darin Young and will play again against De Zwaan on Tuesday.

"That could be, but I can't really answer that. That also depends on Taylor's schedule, he also has demonstrations and such. Raymond will stay in England anyway when he makes the second round."

Van Barneveld has been world champion five times in the past. Taylor is a record holder with no less than sixteen world titles. He put an end to his career after the 2018 World Cup final (2-7 loss against Rob Cross).

The upcoming World Cup starts on Friday at 8 p.m. with the match between Jelle Klaasen and Kevin Burness. The winner will face title defender Michael van Gerwen later in the evening at Alexandra Palace in London.
