EA Sports has taken Marco van Basten out of the FIFA 20 football game, because he has pronounced the Hitler salute " Sieg Heil " on TV in November. The former football player made the comment in the De Eretribune program after an interview by Hans Kraay Jr. with the German trainer Frank Wormuth of Heracles Almelo.

Gamers who enter the Ultimate Team game mode will be notified that Van Basten is no longer available as an icon "until further notice". Van Basten is a character in the game.

"We are aware of the recent comments by Marco van Basten," said EA in the statement. "We assume that our game is committed to equality and diversity. That is why we will no longer make the ICON items from Marco van Basten available until further notice."

It is unclear whether this means that the Van Basten ticket can no longer be traded on the marketplace of FIFA 20 and whether owners can use the former football player in the game. NU.nl has asked EA Sports for clarity through a PR agency.

Analyst suspended by FOX Sports for a week

Van Basten made the remark on November 23 before the start of the Ajax-Heracles match. He was not in the picture at the time, but his remark was audible.

FOX Sports decided, after his remark, to suspend Van Basten for the next broadcast of De Eretribune . On December 7 he can be seen again in the program.
