The satellite dishes of the Dutch intelligence services are moving from Friesland to abroad, Nieuwsuur reports Monday. To which country, however, must remain secret at the request of the country concerned.

The satellite dishes of the AIVD and MIVD intercept satellite communication. Part of the dish uses the same frequency as the new mobile 5G network.

To introduce that network in the Netherlands, the dishes have to move. This is not possible within the Netherlands, because there are no trouble-free locations here.

It is not known to which country the satellite dishes are moving. According to Nieuwsuur , the cabinet has already reached an agreement with the 'secret country' about the move.

Preventing Huawei from constructing 5G

With the introduction of the 5G network, the Cabinet will come up with additional requirements to keep Huawei out, sources report to Nieuwsuur . The construction of the most sensitive parts of the 5G network should not be done with countries with an "offensive cyber strategy" and with companies from countries where they can be forced to share information with the government.

On Tuesday, State Secretary Mona Keijzer of Economic Affairs in Brussels will speak on the subject in an EU context. Later this week, she wants to present her plans and additional safety requirements.

According to the sources, Huawei is not specifically mentioned in these requirements, but several sources inform Nieuwsuur that the effect of these measures is that the Chinese company can thus be kept out of the construction of the important components. What these "important parts" or "sensitive parts" of the 5G network are, is unclear.

Earlier this year it was announced that KPN wanted to work with Huawei in the construction of the 5G network. KPN did indicate that it opted for a western company in the "critical parts" of the network.
