On November 16, 1874, a prominent Russian military-political figure and scientist Alexander Kolchak was born. Historians call him a complex and controversial figure, noting the significant achievements of Kolchak as a talented oceanographer and a prominent military leader during the Russo-Japanese and World War I. However, his actions as the Supreme Ruler of Russia after 1918 are assessed ambiguously. In February 1920, the Irkutsk Military Revolutionary Committee (WRC) sentenced Kolchak to death. After the collapse of the USSR, Russian courts considered public appeals with requests to reconsider the legality of this sentence and rehabilitate the name of Alexander Kolchak, but these attempts were unsuccessful.
