The fantasy and adventure game World of Warcraft has never before received as many new subscribers as in the last quarter, publisher Activision Blizzard has announced in its latest quarterly figures. The franchise experienced the largest growth in the number of subscribers thanks to the release of the retrovariant World of Warcraft Classic .
This concerns the number of subscriptions that were concluded in July, August and September. Blizzard released World of Warcraft Classic in August. That game is a replica of what the game looked like in 2006.
Exactly how many World of Warcraft subscriptions have been concluded is unclear. It is known that Activision Blizzard earned 1 billion dollars (920 million euros) in subscriptions and licenses in the past quarter. That is 1.5 percent less than the previous quarter and 18 percent less than in the third quarter of 2018.
In total, an average of 33 million people played a Blizzard game in the past quarter. In addition to World of Warcraft , the company also publishes Call of Duty , Overwatch , Diablo , Hearthstone and Candy Crush, among others .
