A police captain was tried for insulting fellow police officers during a demonstration of the Yellow Vests in Paris. He was fined 2,000 euros on Friday.

It was the 21st of September in Paris, in full manifestation of yellow Vests and a market for the climate, tarnished by "black blocks". On the avenue des Champs-Elysees, police spot a man insulting copiously a motorized police brigade. They stop him and then note with surprise that the arrested is one of them.

Judged for contempt and rebellion, this police captain was sentenced Friday to 2,000 euros fine by the Paris Criminal Court. Only the reason for the contempt has been retained. The court also dismissed the civil parties claiming damages.

The policeman said he was sympathetic to yellow vests

Nicolas C., in the IT department at the Ministry of the Interior, was not on duty that day. During his arrest, he described himself as a sympathizer of yellow vests. According to the police officers who arrested him, he allegedly treated his colleagues with "pedal tape" and resisted, which he contests.

During the hearing on October 11, the police officer explained that he had said "by far" what he thought of the "voltigeurs", a term used to designate police officers on motorbikes during demonstrations. He said they have qualified "probably wankers, possibly pimp". He also acknowledged that the use of the term "pedal tape" on the record could "match" his words while denying himself "homophobic".

Passed by the prestigious criminal brigade of 36 Quai des Orfèvres, the intelligence services and the antiterrorism, the defendant, in depression for two years, had explained to feel "sadness" compared to "the news, which 'went to the Bataclan', in reference to the jihadist attacks of 13 November 2015 in Paris. Suspended for four months as a precautionary measure, he is subject to disciplinary proceedings.
