At least three people have died in the bad weather that hit southern France in the past three days, the interior ministry said Thursday.

The violent storms and floods that affect the south of France for three days have killed three, announced Thursday, October 24 the Interior Ministry in a statement.

"This rainy episode gave rise to 1,773 interventions mobilizing more than 2,000 firefighters and civil security forces to respond to this crisis situation that simultaneously affected up to 8 departments," the statement said.

The violent rains have created "significant damage to the territories" and the Minister of the Interior wishes that "the procedure of recognition of the state of natural disaster for the municipalities concerned is accelerated". The prefects are called to "communicate as soon as possible the list of municipalities affected by these floods (runoff, mudslides, overflow of watercourses)".

The rainy phenomenon continues and now concerns the eastern plain of Haute-Corse. Christophe Castaner calls everyone to vigilance.
