Use your Android phone as an external screen with Duet Display, or shoot videos simultaneously with the front and rear camera of your iPhone thanks to DuetCam. That and more in this edition of the Apps of the Week section.
Instagram is rolling out a dark mode for the app this week, which makes it a lot nicer to scroll through your timeline in the evenings. The update is being rolled out gradually, so you may have to wait a little longer.
There is no switch in the Instagram app that allows you to switch between dark and light mode. Instead, the mode is linked to the day and night mode of iOS and Android. If your system switches to one of these modes, Instagram automatically colors.

The popular Duet Display iOS app makes the switch to Android after years. With the app you can turn an Android tablet or smartphone into a second screen for your computer. The app works both wirelessly and with a cable. If you want to minimize the delay between the two devices, we recommend using a wire. The app only supports USB-C, so no micro-USB.
Once the app is connected, you can drag windows and programs from your computer to the screen of your smartphone or tablet and use the touchscreen to operate them. Duet Display has a one-time purchase price of 21.99 euros. The app costs 10.99 euros on iOS.

Game developer Amanita Design (known from Machinarium, among others) has created this charming game for Apple Arcade. In Pilgrims you travel through a picturesque world full of puzzles and assignments. To solve this, use the cards at the bottom of the screen to influence the game world.
Along the way you collect more and more cards, which gives you new options in different situations. By cleverly combining these cards, you solve many tasks, such as catching and frying a fish, or think of a way to lure a bear out of its cave. The pace in Pilgrims is high, which makes it fun to experiment with the cards you've collected.

DuetCam is a new camera app for the iPhone that gratefully uses a new feature in iOS 13. This allows you to simultaneously record videos with the front and rear cameras. For example, you can make a video of a band during a concert, while you also bring your face into view with the selfie camera.
Videos are stored directly in your film roll, just like Apple's standard Camera app does. In addition, DuetCam has a built-in gallery where you can quickly view all your recorded videos without leaving the app, and a feature that allows you to share your creation directly via Instagram Stories. Please note: the app only works on the iPhone XR and newer.
