An Italian killed his father when he thought he was targeting a wild boar during a hunting party in the south of the country, local media reported on Sunday.
Martino Gaudioso, 55, was fatally shot in the stomach by a shot from his 34-year-old son, while the two men hunted game in thick foliage in Sicignano degli Alburni, near Salerno. The tragedy took place in a part of a national park normally closed to hunters.
The Italian Minister of the Environment had called in late 2018 for a national ban on hunting, after the death of a young man of 18 years in similar circumstances. National League animal rights leader Michela Vittoria Brambilla on Sunday denounced the "Far West" transformation of Italy's forests and countryside and called for tougher penalties for killings by hunters.
