A database with data on the entire Ecuadorian population was publicly accessible through a leak, writes ZDNet on the basis of its own research. The database is used to retrieve information from millions of Ecuadorian children and even WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who stayed at the Ecuadorian embassy in London until this year.

According to ZDNet and researchers Noam Rotem and Ran Locar, the server was set up incorrectly, as a result of which the information of more than 20.8 million users was in the street. The database would belong to Novaestrat, a market researcher active in the South American country.

The researchers found an enormous amount of information, including the family trees, home addresses, financial and labor-related information and car registrations. The information "seems to come from government sources," writes ZDNet .

A list of family members was even visible to every Ecuadorian citizen. ZDNet found information about 6.77 million children under the age of 18, sorted by year of birth. From 2016, this part of the database no longer seems complete.

There was also information about the current president of Ecuador.
