According to the United States, Israel is responsible for placing espionage equipment at the White House and in Washington, Politico reports Thursday based on three anonymous initiates.
These are antennas with which smartphones are monitored. With the devices, the location, information about telephone conversations, internet use and unique identification numbers of a smartphone can be collected by means of signals.
According to Politico sources, the antennas were meant to spy on US President Donald Trump and people around him. Whether and to what extent the installer of the antennas has succeeded in this is not clear.
The Israeli embassy denies to Politico that Israel has installed the devices. "Israel does not conduct espionage operations in the United States, period," said a spokesperson.
Although the US has concluded that Israel is responsible, the Trump government would not have reprimanded the country. "The reaction (from the US, ed.) Is very different from what it would have been in the last government," a former intelligence officer told Politico .
