Nine men have died since the beginning of the year in the Marseilles region, counting this last homicide.

A 26-year-old man was shot dead Monday night in the northern districts of Marseille in what is "like a settling of accounts" related to the trafficking of narcotics, it was learned from the prosecutor.

"A vehicle that seems to match that of the authors was found on fire". The victim, known to the police "for thefts and offenses against the legislation on narcotics", was shot dead in the parking lot of a shopping mall in the city of Mail around 22:45, said Xavier Tarabeux, prosecutor of the Republic of Marseille confirming information from La Provence. Shots were fired from a vehicle with several people inside. Between 10 and 20 sockets of 7.62 mm caliber corresponding with a Kalashnikov type weapon were found on the spot. "A vehicle that seems to match that of the authors was found on fire in Châteauneuf-les-Martigues," said Tarabeux.

One of the victims, known for trafficking in narcotics, was released from prison in September 2018.
