Kaspersky researchers have discovered malware in the CamScanner Android app. The app, with which documents can be scanned and converted to PDF, has been downloaded more than one hundred million times.
CamScanner was initially a reliable app, but recently malware was discovered after bad reviews in the Google Play Store. Users warned against using the app.
A piece of code was found in the app that can download and install other malware. As a result, users of the app can be shown unwanted advertisements and money can be made by registering the user for paid services.
After Kapersky informed Google, the app was immediately removed from the Google Play Store. The app can now be downloaded again, after an update which means that the latest version no longer contains malware.
