The American e-sports team OG is continuing its title this year as champion of The International, the DotA 2 tournament with the largest e-sports prize pool in the world. The team wins more than 15 million dollars (13 million euros) and is the first to win The International twice in a row.

OG competed in the final against Team Liquid, a team based in the Netherlands that is in the hands of the Dutch Victor Goossens. Team Liquid, which has no other Dutch players, earned 4 million dollars with its second place (3.5 million euros).

OG won a match three times in the final; Team Liquid only won one game. The Chinese PSG.LGD became third, the pan-European Team Secret had to settle for fourth.

$ 34 million in the prize pool

The prize pool of The International this time totaled 34 million dollars (30 million euros), four million more than the world championship Fortnite earlier this year. The big difference: the prize money from The International is raised through crowdfunding, while the Fortnite World Cup is fully funded by Fortnite maker Epic Games.

DotA 2 is a so-called multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), a game in which two teams with different heroes fight each other. The goal is to destroy the counterparty's buildings.
