A man in his thirties died Saturday in the fire of a building rue Saint-Martin in the 4th arrondissement.

A man in his thirties died on Saturday morning "probably asphyxiated" in the fire of a building which declared itself in the center of Paris for an undetermined reason

Found "in cardio-respiratory arrest" in his room on the 6th floor of this building of the 4th arrondissement, where a fire broke out "shortly before 7:00 am", the young man died, said Captain Valérian Fuet, of the fire brigade of Paris. He was "probably asphyxiated by opening his door" and inhaling the smoke, he added.

The fire under control

The fire, which has mobilized a hundred firefighters and some fifty vehicles, is now "under control" but relief operations were still ongoing on Saturday morning, especially to ensure that no one else was stuck in apartments.

The access to the top floor is particularly delicate, since the fire caused the collapse of the stairs between the 5th and 6th floor, said Captain Fuet.
