A British judge has ruled that bitcoins and other crypto coins worth more than £ 900,000, about 1 million euros, may be confiscated by a hacker who is imprisoned.
After the arrest of the British Grant West in September 2017, he had over 1 million euros in crypto coins, but due to the currency's increase in value, it was complicated to compensate victims. It has therefore been decided that 1 million euros may be confiscated, whereby the judge ruled that West would receive an extra prison sentence for four years if he refused to cooperate.
West was sentenced in 2018 to 10 years and eight months in prison for various crimes, including fraud and drug possession. With cyber attacks and phishing emails targeted at more than a hundred companies worldwide, he came into possession of financial customer data that he resold online. He converted his winnings into different crypto coins.
