Navigation service provider TomTom will make it easier to plan routes for electric cars. For this, the company offers two new pieces of software, so-called APIs.
With the Long Distance EV Routing API, users can plan routes that are longer than an electric car can travel on one battery charge. TomTom uses data about the location and availability of chargers for this. The time required to charge the car is also included in the travel time.
The software also calculates the most optimal route for electric cars, based on the incline percentage, among other things, to minimize battery use. Developers can integrate the new APIs directly into their software.
