The fire, which broke out in a house occupied by nine people, caused no casualties.

A fire broke out in a house around 2.30 am in Nielles-lès-Bléquin, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, reports La Voix du Nord. A nine-month-old baby was saved from flames by firefighters.

"It is for this kind of intervention that we do this job," said Lieutenant Colin of the fire station of Lumbres, the neighboring city, the regional daily.

Eight inpatients

In the house, now ravaged by the roof, lived two families, four adults and five children. As the fire started, everyone managed to get out of the house. One of the occupants had no choice but to jump from a window upstairs to escape the flames. Only the infant, three months old, remained inside the building on fire.

Two firefighters then managed to recover it after crawling into the fire room. The child is safe and sound, but eight people still had to be hospitalized for slight poisoning or as a precaution.
