Google employees have started a petition against a possible cooperation between the tech giant and the US border guards. In a message they write that the immoral way in which immigrants are treated does not suit Google. 675 Google employees have now signed the petition.
The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the body that monitors the borders of the US and must stop immigrants. The Dutch DPA is looking for a supplier for cloud services and it is possible that Google will accept this assignment.
Google employees think this is a bad idea, because the way the US is currently dealing with immigrants is contrary to international human rights, they write. The message refers among other things to the children who died in detention camps.
They call on Google to oppose Trump's policies and not to support the government and the agencies that must guard the borders.
Previously, Google employees also opposed Trump's entry ban, which means that residents of several predominantly Muslim countries are no longer allowed to enter the US.
