“In this program there are globally four blocks, four directions. The first is biomedicine, personal medicine. The second block is highly productive agriculture, plant growing and animal husbandry. The third is microbiology, industrial biotechnology, say, the creation of antibiotics, ”he said.

As Kovalchuk noted, it is extremely important to ensure the safety of genetic research.

“After all, this is a very complicated process and the formulation at the state level of this program with such directions, on the basis of the creation of a national biogenetic network, with the scientific head organization of the Kurchatov Institute and the leading organizations in medicine, agriculture, industrial biotechnology and safety, will create a network structure throughout the country, ”he added.

He stressed that this would allow a breakthrough in this area and would contribute to the spatial development of the country.

According to him, the approval of the program is a landmark event.

“In a sense, we have entered a new era. Genetics and genomic editing have become one of the most important elements of state policy in the field of science and technology. The development of these technologies is associated with a huge number of breakthrough results that can be obtained in a very short time, ”the president of the SIC said.

Earlier, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev approved the federal scientific and technical program for the development of genetic technologies until 2027.

The head scientific organization for the implementation of this program will be the Kurchatov Institute.
