The company Flixbus brings a first fully electric long-distance bus to German roads. As of Thursday, the bus from Chinese production between the Frankfurt airport and Mannheim commute, as the company announced on Wednesday. The range of the model C9 with 40 seats is according to the manufacturer BYD about 320 kilometers. The university town of Heidelberg is also to be approached on the approximately 115 kilometer long route.

According to the company, the vehicle is about twice as expensive to buy as a conventional diesel bus. Flixbus Germany manager Fabian Stenger spoke of a sign that the mobility turnaround was possible. "At the same time, the first electric buses in our fleet are a signal to bus manufacturers to drive innovation and develop alternatives to pure diesel propulsion."

Flixbus wants to charge the vehicle once or twice a day and at night with eco-power from partner Greenpeace Energy. Stations are located in Mannheim and Frankfurt. Flixbus has been using a fully electric bus on the Paris-Amiens route since March. Also this vehicle comes from China and comes from the manufacturer Yutong.
