Many Bundesliga clubs have struggled in the first round of the cup against underclass opponents. For Bayern it was enough against Drochtersen / Assel only to a laborious 1: 0, defending champion Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart are even eliminated. Borussia Mönchengladbach is quite different: the foals celebrated a 11: 1 (6: 0) victory at fifth-tier BSC Hastedt. The Gladbacher have never won so much in their more than 50-year cup history.

The game started badly for the hosts. In the second minute BSC goalkeeper Marcel Pfaar brought down Florian Neuhaus in his own penalty area. Union Berlin has reached the second round of the cup with a comfortable victory in Jena. Sebastian Andersson (14th) and Felix Kroos (29th) took the Iron twice in the lead in the first half, but Maximilian Wolfram (21st) and Christopher Trimmel with an own goal (42nd) equalized for Carl Zeiss. Nonetheless, Union led at half-time as Simon Hedlund converted a penalty in the fifth minute of injury time in the first half. Guillaume Cros had fouled Akaki Gogia. For a further compensation it was not enough for Jena. Instead, Hedlund made the final decision after the break with his second goal (71).

1860 Munich - Holstein Kiel 1: 3 (1: 0)

For a long time, it looked as if Holstein Kiel would have eliminated another second division club in the first round of the cup. In the afternoon, VfL Bochum and Jahn Regensburg had already left the competition. But the Kiel storks turned a 0: 1 break in Munich still to a 3-1 victory.
