Ajax Amsterdam's surprise move to the Champions League semi-final has an impact on the Dutch Eredivisie fixtures. According to the association, the 33rd matchday will probably take place on May 15, instead of on April 28, three days after the original matchday, which is scheduled for May 12th.

Record champions Ajax and PSV Eindhoven are currently tied in the Eredivisie at the top of the table. Amsterdam will be given a two-day break before the semi-final first leg in the premier class at Tottenham Hotspur on April 30 (9 pm, live ticker SPIEGEL ONLINE; TV: Sky).

A different date could obviously not find: An advancement of Amsterdam guest appearance at De Graafschap was not possible for security reasons. On the 26th and 27th of April, the Netherlands will celebrate King's Night and King's Day in honor of their King Willem-Alexander.

Not all clubs agree

And why not only the Ajax game takes place on May 15th - but all games of the matchday? A decoupling of the game from the match day contradicted the requirement that the games of the two final rounds of a season should take place at the same time for reasons of sporting fairness. This is how it is handled in Germany.

The National Association KNVB justified the measure with the importance of Amsterdam's international success. From the Ajax semi-final participation benefit the entire Dutch football. In scheduling the possibility of a Dutch club in the top four of the Champions League was not considered.

The postponement of the season finale will affect further dates in the Eredivisie. The playoffs for the European Cup places and the relegation can take place later. The KNVB admitted that not all clubs agreed with this solution: "We are aware that it is impossible to satisfy all."
