The German record champion may continue to hope for the entry into the Champions League quarter-finals. In the first knockout round first leg at Liverpool FC Bayern won a 0: 0. The Munich showed a good performance at Anfield and avoided serious individual mistakes as recently in the tight Bundesliga victory against Augsburg.

The Bayern missed in the Reds, however, the important away goal, so is the starting position before the second leg (13 March) against the runners-up of the English Premier League treacherous.

However, the result is also better than many have expected, especially since FC Bayern had come with staffing problems: In addition to the diseased Jérôme Boateng the club had to give up the last strong Leon Goretzka, he had logged off on Wednesday morning with a tendon irritation. Thomas Müller was suspended and missing, as was Liverpool's defender Virgil van Dijk.

Bayern draw in Liverpool: Defense!

The loss of the Dutchman and injured Dejan Lovren put former Schalke player Joel Matip into the center of Liverpool's central defense - where he came into the match several times: In the 13th minute he deflected a cross from Serge Gnabry dangerously on his own goal. Three minutes later, he stole a pass from goalkeeper Alisson, then Kingsley shot Coman into the outside net.

Kimmich is missing in the second leg

FC Bayern were strongly in the pressing and came against the team of coach Jürgen Klopp until the end of the first half more under pressure. Sadio Mané missed one of the best offensive scenes in this phase when he missed the lead from just under eight meters (38th minute). The English came to significantly more finals, but they could not take the pace in the second half - also because the Bayern defensive to the strong Javi Martínez and Mats Hummels defended well.

Shortly before the final whistle Mané failed with a header to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, Gnabry had with a long shot in the 59th minute, the best Munich attack scene in the second section.

In the second leg in Munich (13 March, 21 clock, live ticker SPIEGEL ONLINE; TV: Sky) Joshua Kimmich will be missing due to his third yellow card in the current competition, even Müller must then suspend. Van Dijk returns to Liverpool.
