Ajax Amsterdam has reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. In the quarter-final second leg at Juventus Ajax won 2: 1 (1: 1). Captain Matthijs de Ligt's 67rd-minute header saw Ajax Amsterdam advance. Cristiano Ronaldo (28) had put Juve ahead in the first half and Donny van de Beek made up for it shortly after (33 ').

For twenty minutes in Turin it looked as if Ajax Amsterdam pushed to its limits in the second leg. Juve played a well-structured attack jump, but the technical abilities of the Ajax players did not come into play at first. Added to this was the early injury of left-back Noussair Mazraoui, who had to fold over in a duel with Paulo Dybala and had to be replaced (11).

Nevertheless, Ajax had the first chance of the match: After a combination over David Neres and Dusan Tadic, Leonardo Bonucci cleared the van, and van de Beek put the margin just above the goal (21st).

Referee Turpin and the video evidence

Juventus had more possession by then, but not a scoring chance yet, but that should change soon. Miralem Pjanic brought a corner into the box with a lot of emotion, where Ronaldo deftly headed for Juve with a powerful header (28 '). Amsterdam de Ligt fouled, referee Clement Turpin checked the scene in the Review Area - and gave the hit. It was the right decision.

The visitors from Amsterdam were equalized five minutes later, and Turpin again took advantage of the video evidence: A deflected shot from Hakim Ziyech had landed at the feet of van de Beek, who scored the only goal of the game (33 '). In Juve's opinion, van de Beek had previously been offside. But Turpin also gave this hit - and he decided correctly again.

Szczesny keeps Juve in the game for a long time

At the beginning of the second half Juventus had to thank goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who initially prevented several times a backlog. He first held a shot from Ziyech, tearing his left arm up (53 '). Six minutes later Szczesny steered a Schlenzer van de Beek with the fingertips over the crossbar.

But in the 67th minute then Szczesny was no chance. After a corner of Lasse Beautiful de Ligt prevailed in the header duel against Alex Sandro and Daniele Rugani and scored to 2: 1. Due to the away goals rule Juventus had to win after the 1-1 draw in the first leg now, yet to reach the semi-finals. From then on, the Italians threw everything forward, but they did not manage to score.
