Dominik Paris won the Streif for the third time after 2013 and 2017. In the downhill race in Kitzbühel he drove the best time in 1: 56.82 minutes, second was Beat Feuz from Switzerland with two tenths behind. Third place went to Austrian Otmar Striedinger (+ 0.37 seconds). Best German driver was Josef Ferstl in seventh place.

"I've never been on the limit like today," said Feuz after the race. He had done an almost perfect run and improved the previous best performance of Ferstl. At that time, there was much to suggest that the World Cup leader would win the Streif for the first time in his career. His bad luck was that Paris showed an even better run.

Although Paris was behind in the upper section, the closer he got to the finish, the better he drove. For Paris it was the 12th World Cup victory of his career and the third this season. Previously, he had already achieved the best time in Bormio on the downhill and in the Super-G.

The race was overshadowed by the heavy crash of Sweden's Alexander Knöll. In a left turn Knöll had lost control of his skis at high speed and was heavily crashed. The race was then interrupted and transported Knöll by helicopter. Details of his injury are not known yet.
