Karlsruhe's Paul Nebel celebrates his goal to make it 2-1

Karlsruher SC won the home game against FC St. Pauli 2:1 (1:1). The Karlsruhe team took the lead thanks to an early goal from Marcel Franke (2nd minute), Jackson Irvine was able to equalize for the Hanseatic team before the break (37th). Paul Nebel took the lead for KSC again in the second half (69th), St. Pauli defender Hauke Wahl was sent off with a yellow-red card (77th).
St. Pauli is still at the top of the table after the defeat, but is only two points ahead of second-placed Holstein Kiel. Karlsruhe ranks sixth with 42 points.
After a well-rehearsed corner variation from Karlsruhe, Jerôme Gondorf's header was initially denied by Pauli keeper Nikola Vasilj, and Franke converted the goal to make it 1-0 (2nd). St. Pauli didn't react with much pressure - and just before the break they equalized with a set piece. Irvine completed a corner with a powerful header to make it 1-1 (37th).
Irvine gave St. Pauli the lead shortly after the restart, but the VAR intervened: there had been an offside position in the run-up to the goal (53'). Instead, the Karlsruhe team struck. Nebel completed a nice move to make it 2-1 (69'). In the final phase, St. Pauli lacked the power to come back - also because Hamburg had to play outnumbered against Hauke Wahl after a yellow-red card (77').
